Using & Managing eSIMs
When can you use the same eSIM
- When you purchase an eSIM, it is always accompanied by an activated data pack.
- The eSIM is still installed on your device.
- You will utilize the eSIM in a supported nation or nations
When you purchase an eSIM, it already has a package enabled.
You can leave it installed and simply turn it OFF under Cellular Data Plans while not in use.
Please note that your eSIM and data packages can only be used in supported countries. There is no available top-up options for your eSIM. It can only be used once. Once the data package has expired or been exhausted, you may safely remove the eSIM from your smartphone.
When you wish to use your eSIM in another country, you must check that your eSIM and data packages are compatible with the destination country. If not, you will be unable to use it.
When you CAN’T use the same eSIM
- There is no data allocation available in the plan purchased.
- You plan on using your eSIM for a different country than you’ve used before and it’s not supported.
As a quick reference:
- Local eSIMs support one country only.
- Regional eSIMs cover multiple countries.
As the eSIM packs only supply data, you will not be able to make phone calls or send SMS text messages with Agoda eSIMs. With a Data-only eSIM, telephony services such as Texts (SMS) and calls are not possible. However, internet-based calls and texts are available.
Please note that if you intend to use third-party apps for calling or messaging via the internet, it must be configured before you use your eSIM.
Can I still receive phone calls on my primary number?
Yes, your primary number should be able to accept calls if your device supports simultaneous activation of a SIM and eSIM.
Certain iPhone models include Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) technology, which enables you to remain connected to both your physical SIM and eSIM simultaneously.
However, the number of eSIMs that you can have active on your device will change according to the device model. With iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13, and iPhone 13 mini, you can use Dual SIM with either two active eSIMs or a nano-SIM and an eSIM.
iPhone 12 models, iPhone 11 models, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR feature Dual SIM with a nano-SIM and an eSIM, but you can only have one eSIM active at a time.
For more information, please contact your device’s manufacturer.
Please also keep in mind that data roaming charges may apply to the call service depending on your carrier provider.
On iOS
Only some eSIM plans support personal hotspot sharing, please check the details on the confirmation email.
- Go to Settings
- Personal Hotspot
- Toggle on “Allow Others to Join”
Go to your eSIM installation page to check if APN is required. In case the eSIM requires the APN to be manually set, you will need to do that for the hotspot APN as well as follows:
- Go to Settings on your device
- Go to Cellular/Mobile Data
- Go to your eSIM under Cellular/Mobile Data Plans
- Go to Cellular/Mobile Data Network
- In the Personal Hotspot APN field, type the APN as written in the eSIM installation details (all lower case, all one word)
- Leave Username and password blank
On Android
Most eSIM plans support personal hotspot sharing, please check the details on the confirmation email.
In order to turn on your devices’ hotspot, please follow these steps:
- Set an APN before enabling Hotspot & tethering
- From the Home screen, head to Settings on your device (pull down the notification bar and hit the gear-shaped Settings button)
- Go to Network & Internet
- Tap “Hotspot & tethering”, then
- Tap “Wi-Fi hotspot” and turn on “Wi-Fi hotspot”
The eSIM data can only be used during the validity period, therefore unused data cannot be used after the validity period expires.
You can safely remove eSIMs from your device when:
There is no longer an active data package for the eSIM
When you purchase an eSIM, it is always accompanied by an activated data pack. Once the data pack has been depleted, you may safely remove the eSIM and purchase a replacement eSIM as needed.
To remove your eSIMs from the device, navigate to your device’s Mobile/Cellular Settings, tap on the eSIM you want to delete and select “Remove Mobile Data Plan”. Depending on the device, it can also be “Remove eSIM”, “Delete Mobile Plan”, or something similar.
eSIMs cannot be reinstalled, thus if you delete your eSIM and try to download it again, you may face an issue.
We recommend temporarily disabling the eSIM while not in use to reduce data consumption. However, once activated, the validity of the eSIM pack will not expire.
No, the same eSIM cannot be installed on many devices.
Your eSIM can be installed on only one device, and can only be installed once. Therefore, if you remove the eSIM from your device, it will be impossible to reinstall it.
Troubleshooting
You can check if your device is locked by following the steps below:
- Go to Settings > General, and tap About.
- Under Carrier Lock, you should see a message that says No SIM restrictions. If you don’t see that message, please contact your carrier to have your device unlocked.
If you are having trouble connecting your eSIM on an Android device, please make sure to check the required settings for your eSIM.
To turn on the Data Roaming:
- Go to Settings on your device
- Go to Mobile Network
- Tap on your eSIM
- Make sure Roaming is set to ON.
To update the Access Point Name (APN settings):
- Go to Settings on your device
- Go to the Network & Internet section
- Go to Mobile Networks
- Go to Access Point Names
- Type “+” or “ADD”
- Type the new APN settings as written in the eSIM installation details under APN (all lower case, all one word)
- Tap save
- Leave the other fields blank
Please also ensure that the device is connected to the supported network(s).
The PDP Authentication Failure can be related to your settings, or eSIM data/validity.
Please check if you have experienced the following items:
- The APN is set according to the information from your eSIM installation page if required (all lower case and in one word)
- You have remaining data on your eSIM: if you try to connect while there is no remaining data, you may encounter this error.
- You are connected to the supported network as advised on your eSIM installation page
If the above steps do not help, please try resetting your network settings*:
- Go to Settings on your device
- Go to General
- Go to Reset
- Go to Reset Network Settings
- Restart your device
*Resetting network settings reset existing Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings.
Speed is dependent on coverage, congestion, or prioritization of the local carrier.
However, if your eSIM requires you to manually add/update your APN settings, and if you do not upload it correctly, it may be mistaken for a slow connection, while in fact the eSIM was not properly configured.
If you are experiencing slow network speeds, please check if you have met all the requirements from your eSIM installation page, and proceed as below:
- Set up your APN settings (if required)
- Set the device to 3G temporarily
If you are experiencing slow network speeds after completing the above, please try to:
- Set your device to 3G only if available
- Toggle the airplane mode on and off
If your eSIM supports multiple networks, you can also attempt to connect to a different network to check if it offers a better service.
eSIMs may only be installed on eSIM-compatible, network-unlocked smartphones. Please contact your mobile carrier to unlock your device.
In addition, if your device was recently unlocked, your carrier may have temporarily stopped eSIM functionality for security reasons.
Please contact your mobile provider to unlock or disable the security settings on your device.
The ‘Unable to Complete Data Plan Change’ error message is related to an installation failure which can be caused by different factors as follows:
- There are multiple eSIMs installed on the device. Multiple eSIMs can be installed on eSIM-compatible devices, but depending on the device model, the number of active eSIMs at once may vary. iPhones, for instance, may contain between 5 and 10 eSIMs, depending on the device's storage capacity.
- Cellular/Mobile data is disabled in the device’s settings
- Trying to install an eSIM that was already installed: most eSIMs can only be installed once. You can verify if the eSIM is installed on your device by Going to Settings > General> About> Scroll down to find the ICCID (it’s a 20 digits number that starts with 89XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX and ends with a random extra number). If you confirm that the ICCID has been installed it might be a matter of making a few adjustments to get connected. Please refer to your eSIM installation page for all the details.
- Poor connection when trying to install the eSIM. This commonly happens when using the ship’s wi-fi or public wi-fi.
If you are unable to connect your eSIM after installation on an iOS device, please ensure that the Access Data instructions for your eSIM have been performed.

You can access various apps and websites with your eSIM as long as the app or website you desire to use does not impose restrictions.
Some apps or websites that restrict access due to:
- Proxy settings
- Security protocols
- Location/service provider restrictions
eSIM data requires a routing method that operates through a ‘roaming platform’. For this reason, due to the app or website security settings, they might not be accessible.
